When it comes to the world of poker, few names resonate as loudly as Patrick Tardif, known in gaming circles as “Egption.” Originating from the vast prairies of Saskatchewan and now calling Toronto home, Tardif’s journey through the world of poker has been nothing short of remarkable. With over $11 million in online poker earnings, he has firmly established himself as one of Canada’s premier poker talents.

Joining the WPT Global Ambassador Roster

With such an impressive background, it comes as no surprise that WPT Global sought to bolster its Ambassador roster by adding Tardif to the mix. He joins a list of elite players that includes poker legends like Phil Ivey, Brad Owen, and Xuan Liu, as well as NHL superstar Phil Kessel. Since his ambassadorship began, Tardif has demonstrated serious commitment, engaging in extensive travel to promote the brand and participate in events like the WPT Playground Championship held in Montreal.

A New & Improved Playground

Reflecting on his experiences at the Playground, Tardif has seen firsthand the dramatic transformation of the venue since his last visit in 2018. “It’s like a full-fledged resort,” he commented, marveling at the venue’s three floors filled with gaming tables and machines. The revitalized poker room, while modernized, still retains its unique character—something Tardif appreciates about the establishment.

During the WPT Playground Prime Championship, Tardif showcased his skills by qualifying for the CAD $1,100 event. Despite an eventual finish in 73rd place for $2,601, his determination didn’t falter. He went on to bag chips in the Main Event but faced disappointment in the CAD $10K High Roller, chalking it up to tough luck in trying to outplay seasoned pros like Darren Elias.

The MUG, Kessel, and the $5 Million Freeroll

Elevating beyond tournament play, Tardif has even indulged in live cash games, specifically at a massive meet-up game (MUG) with fellow ambassadors Liu and Owen, alongside WPT Executive Tour Director Matt Savage. "Anytime I play the meet-up game here, I know the player pool jumps for joy," Tardif shared humorously about his notorious style of play. Although he admitted to losing a four-figure sum during the $1-$3 cash games, his fellow players found success—most notably Liu, who reportedly won $6K on the night.

A noteworthy addition to the WPT Global team is Phil Kessel, a three-time Stanley Cup champion. Tardif expressed his excitement about Kessel’s passion for poker, noting, “I love talking poker with him.” This camaraderie adds a dynamic layer to the team, blending sports with the high-stakes world of poker.

Looking forward, Tardif is particularly excited about the upcoming $5 million Freeroll at the WPT World Championship in December, an opportunity for players to win a significant seat through various contests and raffles. The Freeroll, hosted by Club WPT Gold, promises to draw a large field of competitors eager to take their shot at poker glory.

Concluding Thoughts

As Tardif prepares for his upcoming appearances in Las Vegas for the WPT World Championship, he reflects on his eager anticipation of playing a full series after several years. The allure of the Wynn, known for its luxurious poker room and impeccable organization, is a dream venue for any poker player, and Tardif is no exception.

In a world where poker continues to adapt and expand, Patrick “Egption” Tardif stands out not just as a formidable player, but also as a charismatic ambassador who brings a unique blend of passion and professionalism to the table. His journey is a testament to the spirit of poker, where determination, skill, and a love for the game pave the way for success.
